FAST FACTS
- Club is a corner that’s easy to get wrong as the riders build up speed all the way from the moment they open the throttle at Vale. The grip level here is really impressive — expect to see a lot of black lines on the tarmac!
- In 1997, Silverstone hosted its first motorcycle Grand Prix, which also happened to be the first to be held on the British mainland. Prior to 1977, the British round of the World Championship had been held since 1949 on the Isle of Man TT circuit. From 1988 to 2009 the World Championship racing moved to Donington Park, but returned to Silverstone in 2010 after the 23 years break.
- The UK has produced some of the best riders in the history of the World Championship: Mike Hailwood, John Surtees, Phil Read and the legendary Barry Sheene. Representing Great Britain in MotoGP today are Cal Crutchlow, Scott Redding, Bradley Smith and Sam Lowes.
