In October 2023 Silverstone was awarded FIA 3 Star Environment accreditation by the FIA in recognition of the impressive progress being made on its journey to a net zero future. Three stars is the highest level of accreditation available and reserved for those demonstrating best practice.
Silverstone has achieved certification to the environmental management system (EMS) standard ISO 14001, recognising its sustainability commitment to reduce carbon emissions, amongst other initiatives including action to enhance biodiversity conservation, reduce reliance on plastic and being powered by 100% green electricity.
We have been a member of BASIS, the British Association for Sustainable Sport, since 2021. In 2022 we continued our active engagement with other members of the UK’s hub for sustainability in sport to harness our collective power and build a more sustainable future for our industry.
On the eve of the Formula 1 Lenovo British Grand Prix 2022, we became the first motor racing venue to join the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework. Other notable signatories of the framework include the FIA, Formula 1, Formula E, FIFA and UEFA. Our commitment is to reduce by 50% our carbon footprint by 2030 and be net zero the latest by 2040
In July 2023, Silverstone has been awarded the Greengage ECOsmart Gold Award. This is in recognition of our advanced steps taken as a venue to achieve a wide range of eco-focused actions.
