Hannah Waddingham Set to Perform National Anthem at 2024 Formula 1 British Grand Prix
21 June 2024Silverstone has today announced that British Emmy award-winning actress, West End, and Broadway star Hannah Waddingham will perform the National Anthem ahead of the Formula 1 Qatar Airways British Grand Prix on Sunday 07 July.
Hannah Waddingham is one of the UK's most celebrated actresses of stage and screen, starring in "Game of Thrones", "Sex Education", and her global breakthrough award-winning role in Apple TV's "Ted Lasso" to name a few. She has previously spend some twenty years as a leading lady of musical theatre, originating roles in global productions of Monty Python's Spamalot, Into the Woods, The Wizard of Oz, Kiss Me Kate, and most notably A Little Night Music.
Hannah is the reigning host of The Olivers Awards at the Royal Albert Hall (watch here), and was BAFTA nominated for hosting last year's Eurovision Song Contest, and won The Royal Television Society Award for her hosting skills.
She currently stars in Universal Pictures' The Fall Guy and Sony's The Garfield Movie, and has just finished production on Mission Impossible 8: Dead Reckoning Part II.
Speaking on the chance to perform the National Anthem at Silverstone, Hannah said: "It's the most enormous "pinch me" moment to perform the National Anthem ahead of this year's race. I feel deeply privileged. The atmosphere and excitement at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix last year was utterly electric and I can't wait to be part of it again. I am immensely proud of my British roots and I will remember this honour all my life.
"I'll of course be cheering our British drivers - The mighty Lewis [Hamilton], George [Russell] and Lando [Norris]... C'mon Chaps! Let's DO this!"
Having attracted record crowds of 480,000 people in 2023, the home of British motorsport is set to go bigger and better this year when it hosts an eclectic mix of music heavyweights. The unprecedented four-day festival line-up (04-07 July 2024) will see Silverstone take its new-look music and arts offering to the next level - cementing the British Grand Prix as a summer highlight on both the British sporting and music calendar.
Nashville rockers Kings of Leon will open proceedings on Thursday before generational icon Stormzy headlines on the Friday. Fans can expect summer grooves on Saturday when Pete Tong presents Ibiza Classics with Jules Buckley and The Essential Orchestra before Rudimental close the weekend with a stomping live set on Sunday. The Snuts (Thursday), Self Esteem (Thursday), Jordss (Friday), Ghetts (Friday), Arielle Free (Saturday), and Anna De Ferran (Sunday) make up the rest of the star-studded music line-up for 2024.
