MotoGP pre-season testing is the teams’ first opportunity to put their new bikes through their paces on track. These very limited days are crucial for forming a strategic approach that may come to define the entire season. 

During the 2025 pre-season tests, teams aim to:

  • Collect aerodynamic data to optimize bike performance.
  • Evaluate and adapt to the 2025 Michelin tyre options.
  • Test and refine components to stay competitive throughout the year.

 

When and where does MotoGP pre-season testing take place?

The MotoGP pre-season testing calendar for 2025 includes several key dates:

  • Shakedown Test: January 31 – February 2 at Sepang International Circuit. Test riders, rookies, and concession Rank D manufacturers will be in attendance.
  • Official Sepang Test: February 5 – 7 at Sepang International Circuit, featuring the full field of 2025 MotoGP riders.
  • Buriram Test: February 12 – 13 at Buriram International Circuit in Thailand. Teams will get one final chance to prepare before the season opener at the same venue.

 

Which riders are participating?

Every confirmed MotoGP rider for 2025 will hit the track during the official pre-season tests. Highlights include Marc Márquez debuting with Ducati, Jorge Martin joining Aprilia’s factory team, and several rookies taking their first laps in the premier class.
