SILVERSTONE PRIMED FOR THE CLASSIC
25 August 2022The pits and paddocks are packed with hundreds and hundreds of legendary racing icons from yesteryear, the display areas are prepared to welcome thousands of much-loved classic cars and the Main Stage is in standing-by to host interviews with world champions and live music performances from chart-toppers. And the Bank Holiday weather is set fair. Silverstone is ready for The Classic 2022.
With gates opening at 07:30 on Friday (tomorrow) morning, The Classic is primed for three days of epic entertainment for all ages both on and off the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
While the track will witness no fewer than 20 evocative retro races covering ten memorable decades of motor sport history, this weekend’s award-winning festival will maximise its new Bank Holiday date by offering more family entertainment than ever before.
New highlights include: a mouth-watering Foodie Fest spiced up with celebrity chefs hosting demonstrations on the Silverstone Kitchen Live Stage; an artisan market packed with local produce, a Tasting Tent and even a pop-up store from Jeremy Clarkson’s renowned Diddly Squat Farm Shop – sure to be a big attraction.
All seven of Lewis Hamilton’s championship-winning Formula One cars are on display, too, for the very first time in a world exclusive. Ditto a preview of soon-to-be charity auctioned James Bond cars from the latest 007 blockbuster No Time To Die.
Damon Hill, the 1996 Formula One World Champion, is among the fast and famous being interviewed on the Main Stage, and Rick Astley will bring the party to a fitting finale on Sunday evening.
Another major attraction for the petrolheads attending the world’s biggest historic motor racing festival will be a special display of incredible Group C sportscars to mark the first ever race for the formula which took place at Silverstone exactly 40 years ago (photos top and below bottom). Derek Bell, who took top Group C honours back in 1982, will be at The Classic to lead a special track parade on Saturday afternoon.
“You can feel the excitement building,” enthused Nick Wigley, CEO of The Classic promoter Goose Live Events. “The sun will be shining and Silverstone is ready to deliver its best-ever Classic. It’s not to be missed”.
Tickets are selling fast and available online until midnight tonight.
For fans around the world, all the track action will be live streamed on YouTube at www.youtube.com/SilverstoneClassicTV. Live race timing and results will also be available here.
