Silverstone Teams Up With Motor Sport Magazine Ahead Of The Formula 1 70th Anniversary

The 13th May 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the first Grand Prix championship race which took place at Silverstone Circuit on the 13th May 1950.

Silverstone have teamed up with Motor Sport Magazine to explore the past seven decades since that first race which has seen some truly epic battles take place at Silverstone. Motor Sport magazine have picked out one memorable battle from each decade and asked a key participant including world champions Sir Jackie Stewart and Lewis Hamilton, to recall how the race unfolded.

1950S

British success beckoned at Silverstone in 1956, with Vanwalls and Connaughts and BRMs comprising the first three rows on the grid. By the end of an epic race though, Juan Manuel Fangio proved his class once more. Click to read more.

1960S

Jochen Rindt and Jackie Stewart put on a show for British fans during the 1969 British Grand Prix. The pair duelled for the race win in a memorable battle, slip streaming by one another lap after lap, though in the end it was Stewart that prevailed. Click to read more.

1970S

1980S
