F1 2025 driver line-ups: Who’s on the grid?
10 January 2025The final pieces of the F1 2025 driver line-ups jigsaw have fallen into place with RB’s new recruit Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson replacing the outgoing Sergio Pérez.
Red Bull aren’t the only ones shaking up the grid in 2025 though, with the shocking Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari announcement revealed before last season even got underway.
Hamilton’s Mercedes replacement is no small appointment either. Italian hotshot Kimi Antonelli will race alongside George Russell in the silver arrows while Carlos Sainz departed Ferrari for Williams.
There are also a number of rookies to keep an eye on in 2025. Antonelli and Hadjar will be joined by Alpine’s Jack Doohan – who made his F1 foray in Abu Dhabi – and Sauber debutant Gabriel Bortoleto who is the reigning FIA Formula 2 champion.
Here’s a full rundown of the F1 drivers on the 2025 grid.
What is the F1 2025 driver line-up?
Team | Drivers |
---|---|
McLaren | Lando Norris |
Ferrari | Charles Leclerc |
Red Bull | Max Verstappen |
Mercedes | Kimi Antonelli |
Aston Martin | Lance Stroll |
Alpine | Pierre Gasly |
Haas | Oliver Bearman |
RB | Yuki Tsunoda |
Williams | Alex Albon |
Kick Sauber | Nico Hülkenberg |
McLaren F1 2025 driver line-up
Lando Norris
2025 will be Lando Norris’ seventh season with McLaren, and as the in-form driver for much of last year, the Brit will have his sights firmly set on going one better than his 2024 runner-up spot to take the title this season. The bad news for Norris is there are 19 other drivers all hungry to take Max Verstappen’s crown.
Oscar Piastri
Alongside Norris is Oscar Piastri, who, in just his second season claimed two victories. Although he was still unable to match Lando’s consistency over the course of the year, this season could be a turning point and see the pair go head-to-head for supremacy at McLaren. If the season-ending Abu Dhabi pace of the papaya cars is carried into 2025, we could see these two vying for more wins and maybe even the championship.
Ferrari F1 2025 driver line-up
Lewis Hamilton
As the most successful driver in F1 history, any news of Lewis Hamilton’s future was always going to send shockwaves through the paddock, especially when its heading to the most revered of all teams. 2025 will mark Lewis’ debut with the Scuderia, and if the scarlet cars have retained any of their pace from last year’s campaign, we could see a return to the top step for the seven-time champion.
Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc has one of the toughest asks on the F1 grid in 2025; he must go head-to-head with one of the sport’s all-time greats and prove he can hold his own for the duration of the season. Not that there are any doubts over the Monégasque’s credentials with a total eight wins to his name – three of them last year – but besting Lewis weekend in, weekend out is no mean feat.
Red Bull F1 2025 driver line-up
Max Verstappen
Having joined the exclusive four-time F1 champions club at the end of 2025, Max Verstappen has the most to lose this season. For the majority of the 2024 campaign, Red Bull’s pace was underwhelming by its recent all-conquering standards, often slipping to the third or even fourth fastest car on race days. In the final season before a complete regulations overhaul, Max will want to go out on top but that could be easier said than done.
Liam Lawson
Another driver with a challenging season ahead is Liam Lawson. With just two brief stints at RB – a total of 11 race starts – under his belt, the New Zealander has been offered a seat which is both the most desirable and least desirable on the grid: a drive alongside Verstappen. He takes Sergio Pérez’s place, as the Mexican became the latest in a long line of team-mates who failed to match Max’s performances. So now the question is, can Lawson?
Mercedes F1 2025 driver line-up
George Russell
In the wake of Hamilton’s departure, fellow Brit George Russell is set to lead the Mercedes team into a new era. The 2024 season seemed to highlight he’s up to the challenge too, as he became only the third Hamilton team-mate – the others being Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg – to beat him over the course of a season, taking two wins in the process. However, should his new team-mate live up to his reputation, George may have his work cut out.
Kimi Antonelli
Kimi Antonelli had been touted as the next Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen long before he was revealed to replace the former at Mercedes. To be plugged into one of the top teams in a debut season is a rarity in modern F1, but if Toto Wolff’s gamble pays off we could see the young Italian fighting for the top spots in 2025.
Aston Martin F1 2025 driver line-up
Fernando Alonso
The most experienced driver on the 2025 F1 grid, Fernando Alonso enters his third season with the Aston Martin squad. With Adrian Newey now on board, Aston could be on the march this year and we may see the Spaniard return to the front of the field for the first time since those stellar opening races of the 2023 campaign.
Lance Stroll
Alongside Fernando, Lance Stroll will race for Aston Martin once again in 2025. If the combined power of Newey and their new Silverstone facility bears fruit, Lance could stand to reverse his dip in form from late 2024 and eye a first podium since 2020.
Alpine F1 2025 driver line-up
Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly put in several eye-catching performances at the end of the 2024 season, taking third at Interlagos, fifth at Qatar and seventh at the finale in Abu Dhabi. Considering that before those final four rounds Alpine’s best result all year was ninth, both the French driver and his team gained some serious momentum that they will want to carry into 2025.
Jack Doohan
After nearly three seasons on the sidelines at Alpine, Jack Doohan was finally given his F1 opportunity in the 2024 finale at the Yas Marina Circuit and will make his full-time debut in 2025. With third in F2 and second in F3 on his CV, there’s no doubt Doohan has what it takes to make it in F1, but how will he stack up against the in-form Gasly?
Haas F1 2025 driver line-up
Oliver Bearman
After a trio of super sub appearances in 2024, Oliver Bearman will participate in his full season for Haas in 2025. Like Alpine, Haas had a late-season resurgence last year – of which Bearman contributed to with a point in Baku – so the Banbury-based team could be in for a strong start to this campaign.
Esteban Ocon
Completing Haas’ all-new line-up for 2025, Esteban Ocon has made the switch from Alpine and if the car is up to it, he’ll be hungry to put in more performances like his superb second-place finish at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix.
RB F1 2025 driver line-up
Yuki Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda will certainly be one to watch this season. After getting snubbed for the Red Bull seat in favour of Lawson, Yuki will have a point to prove in 2025. With Honda soon departing for Aston Martin, the engine supplier’s support at RB will dry up, so the Japanese ace must impress this year to secure his future in the sport.
Isack Hadjar
2024 F2 runner-up Isack Hadjar was denied the chance to fight for the title in heartbreaking circumstances at the Abu Dhabi finale, but that misfortune could fuel a statement first campaign in F1 as he looks to show his worth against the best in the world. With two drivers motivated to prove themselves, RB’s line-up could produce some fireworks in 2025.
Williams F1 2025 driver line-up
Alex Albon
Alex Albon and Williams’ 2024 season – one plagued with costly crashes – was a tough pill to swallow after an encouraging 2023. Their 2025 campaign may compound their woes, or, if they bounce back by way of their powerhouse driver pairing could be pivotal in the team’s comeback story.
Carlos Sainz
Despite its 2024 troubles, the Williams outfit must have something in the pipeline to lure Ferrari race winner Carlos Sainz to Grove. The combination of Sainz and Albon is a potent one and could be the exact recipe Williams needs to bring the team back to its former glory.
Kick Sauber F1 2025 driver line-up
Nico Hülkenberg
With an entirely fresh driver line-up and the Audi takeover on the horizon, Kick Sauber is an intriguing prospect in 2025. Having finished last in the standings last season, the only way is up for the Swiss team and with the experienced hands of Nico Hülkenberg on board, there’s every possibility that team could make strides forward in its final year in its current guise.
Gabriel Bortoleto
Brazilian sensation Gabriel Bortoleto is yet another hotly anticipated rookie to join the grid this season. He joins the likes of Piastri, Russell and Leclerc as drivers who have won F3 and F2 titles in their debut years, so the combination of his raw youthful pace and Hülkenberg’s experience could yield better results in 2025.
